Hayduk Engineering has a history of providing innovative and functional stormwater management designs to its clients. In 1986, Hayduk Engineering designed an environmentally viable stormwater pond that works as both a storage vessel for stormwater and as a recharge basin. This system involved the collection of stormwater through catch basins, collected into a large infiltration basin where road pollutants are filtered, then discharged into the pond. The ponds were designed with environmentally friendly flora and fauna, which makes the pond not only a decorative feature of the community, but an ecologically sound environmental attribute. This pond design has been installed at multiple sites since its conception by Hayduk Engineering.

Representative Project: Old Field Conscience Bay Stormwater Treatment and Wetlands Enhancement Project

Bioswales, Old FIeld, NYHayduk Engineering provided engineering design and construction oversight of this Long Island Sound Futures Fund grant funded project. Conscience Bay is classified as a “TMDL Impaired Waterbody” by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). The goal of this project was to reduce nutrient loading into Conscience Bay by treating stormwater and improve the water quality of Conscience Bay, while secondarily providing an improved storm drainage system in this section of Old Field. Hayduk Engineering was responsible for participating in the completion of grant applications, innovative design of a new three (3) phase stormwater treatment system which included precast concrete catch basin leaching pools, infiltration basins, and vegetated bioswales, preparation of bidding documents and technical specifications, soliciting, reviewing and analyzing bids from contractors, engineering during construction and final closeout of the project. In 2015, the Village of Old Field received the “Village Innovation Award” by the Suffolk County Planning Commission as a result of this project.
